"Great base in Lima"

We had a great time staying in Posada Monterico. An important part of this was the owners of the place that helped us a lot with organising trips, busses, safe taxis, ordering dinners etc.

The house is located in a nice neighbourhood close to a major shopping mall, Jocker plaza. There is a nice authentic restaurant just around the corner and a couple of convenient stores, which is very convenient. If you want to spent time in Miraflores, it takes 20-30 mins outside the rushhour in a taxi, up to 1,5 hours during rush! So account for that.

The garden is beautiful, with a small but nice swimming pool, not heated. As this is an enclosed area it is ideal for relaxing and very safe. You can leave your kids free to play and discover. There are some pets which are nice and friendly, just watch the peacock as it can attack small kids if they get too close. You’ll even be able to spot some humming birds.

This is a B&B, not the hilton, so it is not a polished place, but it is relatively clean and it feels like home as it does not have too many rooms and you get a sense of privacy. We went back twice.

"Perfect retreat"

This bed and breakfast is in a quiet residential area. You would never realise from the road what an absolute gem of a place hid inside the walls! The owners Gabby and Hermon are wonderful and loving people, and will do all that they can to ensure your happiness, comfort and general well being! All is spotlessly clean including the pool. (Towels are provided for pool use), there is a resident peacock, talking parrot, toad, dog…..and a multitude of birds. Truly a little paradise! Breakfast is served in the communal dining room.

The Jockey shopping centre is within walking distance and has all of the usual stores and franchised restaurants. You cannot walk from here to a “quiet individual type restaurant”, but Hermon ensures that you have the number of taxi services, so you can always call them, to travel anywhere that you want to! If you want to be in the heart of clubs, people, bars etc….then this place is not for you! But, if you want a wonderful retreat, with access to anywhere via taxi…..then I recommend this establishment…..wholeheartedly! With love and gratitude.

"A gem in the middle of the city"

My husband and I recently stayed at Posada Monterrico for 10 days while visiting family and we could not have been happier with our choice. His family lives in La Molina and there are very few hotels there (I think 2) and based on reviews (or lack thereof) I was not comfortable staying at either. I love Tripadvisor for the very fact that you can find little gems like this B&B. Although not technically in La Molina, it was very close and believe me with the traffic in Lima, you want something in close proximity to where you will be spending most of your time!

Gaby and Herman are great hosts! There when you need them but are not intrusive. They were very helpful with information about neighboring areas and services. The property is beautiful and peaceful, especially since it is in the middle of the city. The pool was refreshing on the hot and humid days and the birds, dog and kitty were well behaved and friendly.

Our room was clean and quiet. Some of the other reviews complained of a musty smell but I can say after visiting Lima, it just is what it is. It was not overpowering and really there is no getting away from that when it is so humid all of the time. There is no A/C but they were happy to bring us a fan for our room to circulate the air and it was more than enough. The breakfast was nice (loved the coffee!) and you could get eggs cooked by request. We had to leave at 5:00 a.m. on our departure day and they made sure there was coffee and breakfast for us before we left.

Overall, it was a great trip and I would recommend Posada Monterrico to anyone who asks.

Thanks Gaby and Herman! Salud!

Posada Monterrico has been a wonderful place. It has offered Bruno and I beautiful moments. Posada Monterrico is amazing and welcoming in 3 ways: The owners are extraordinary people and do everything in their power to make us feel at home and cosy, the people who work there, very discrete, sweet, and always eager to help (including with transportation, where ever we needed to go), and the place, which is a paradise, with exotic plants and flowers from the amazon, where there is a big variety of free birds that come to enjoy the garden (birds which we have only seen in the Posada, not in the city of Lima) and which gives us a peaceful sensation, both inside ourselves and in our surrounding. There is no other place we would go to, when we came back to Peru, except for this Posada Monterrico. There are no words to describe the treasure we found there. Many hugs to Hernan and Gaby, for their love and friendship. (Many kind regards to Nil, Humberto, Jimmy and all the ones we met who offered us their time and help). We miss you ! Bruno and Ana.

"An oasis in the city"

Our daughter lives in Lima and this was our second visit. On the first occasion last year we stayed in Miraflores which was good due its central location near the sea, but it was a bit far away from where our daughter lived in Monterrico, so we looked for something nearer. We wanted to stay somewhere we could just chill out if we had nothing in particular to do and this wonderful place hit that button. Rooms are comfortable if not luxurious with plenty of space – get a garden room if you can. Breakfasts are on a buffet basis with fresh fruit juice every day (eggs to order).

The house is a lovely old place with a colonial feel to it and Hernan and Gaby have created a wonderful green oasis – its like a piece of the jungle transplanted into the city – we spent many hours just sitting by the small pool, reading and bird watching (there’s a wonderful vermillion fly catcher who visits in the late afternoon) . You really feel like house guests and nothing is too much trouble for them. Make sure you taste the honey (which you can buy) which comes from Hernan’s hives in the jungle. The Posada is just a short walk from Jockey Plaza and just a little further from Avenida El Polo both of which have good shops and restaurants. If you like horse racing the city’s race track is even closer. Fabulous – we hope to come back next year. Paul & Lesley, Cambridge, England

"Friendly stay with kind hospitality, very peaceful place"

I was lucky to stay at posada Monterrico. Felt like being home living with kind owners who consider you an old friend. The moment I arrived, I was warmly received by the owners with very nice introduction and very useful information. It was great atmosphere to live in a house with such greenly garden with a lot of different kind of birds. I spent 11 nights in this great located place, where many services are around. I will be definitely back in my next visit to Peru.
